Interdependent Design
Universal principles of design
Interconnectedness and modularity

The main point of the appointed reading was the meaning and the principles of Modularity, consistency, convergence, hierarchy and self-similarity. My favorite sentence in this reading was mentioned in the modularity chapter where it said "Many designers resist modularity for fear of limiting creativity. However, modules applied at the appropriate level will liberate designers from useless activity and allow them to focus creativity where it is most needed.". This sentence highlights how us as designers need to use modularity to our advantage to unleash their creativity in useful ways.
Lecture : Interdependent Design - Interconnectedness and modularity

The concept that caught my interest during this lecture was how almost everything around us is one or more more of three : modular, interdependent, or interconnected. For us humans to build a future we will need to understand how things around us depend on each other to work as well as building more connections ourselves.Furthermore, I was interested in how interdependence and evolution are related and the need for us designers to take that in consideration. Even things around us right now, like new communication technologies and media, advanced wearables, VR, and holograms, these are all things that were based on interdependence. Thus, for us to build a better future where we advance faster and understand each other better we will have to look into these universtal principles of design.
